Fantastic Show
I’m so glad I found this show. It’s well put together, compelling subjects, funny but not trite. Quality entertainment right here.
My favorite podcast by far
I regularly listen to about 20 podcast and Search Engine is far and away the best of the best.
Equal parts captivating and rigorous
PJ brings the type of journalism that is equal parts captivating and rigorous. I love his honest self reflection and inquiry, it is what sets the show apart from other podcasts. You will grow to love (or hate?) the way he sees the world. In the end, I don’t think that matters which side you land on. I wish more journalists presented themselves and their curiosity about the world in the way that search engine does.
No words are excellent enough
It delves into the human perspective on subjects big and small that is honest, objective, kind and impactful. The ads arent so brash as to destroy the ambience of the wonderful world that you walk into through the looking glass of his honest journalism. Keeps an in depth an open minded approach to every subject. Plus…. Who hasnt missed PJ from long ago in his previous podcast. It feels like this american life, 99 percent invisible or invisibilia where the daily subjects are brought to light in a new way.
Love!
Fills the podcast void that I was missing from Reply All!
Best podcast!
Such informative questions and answers
Love PJ
PJs podcasting fills a niche that no other show does.
Great to have PJ back
Love PJ’s style. Witty and informative. Podcast is well researched and careful to not draw sweeping conclusions like many podcasts do.
Podcasts at its best
“Is there a sane way to use the internet” is one of the best conversations about todays media I ever heard. Deeply moving and motivating to change the way I use the web.
Is recycling a sham?
PJ is the best: Love you, the show, life. My question is: Is recycling a sham? I go to my local recycling center and there’s always the guy fishing out the black plastic containers. Are the yellow ones ok? I can’t get out of the supermarket without salad in plastic containers, chicken tenders in plastic containers, plastic containers in plastic containers. Where does this go after I dump it into my local spot? That place in China? The numbers on the bottom: nobody knows what they mean! Keep going- anything you talk about is my favorite thing of the week
Why II take speed
Slightly Misleading title that is far more useful balanced and informative as a mini documentary documentary on a very important topic of ADHD - adhd - history of med studies, big wwII use, big pharma heavy handedness, - informative perspectives on personal question: to speed or not ti speed Personally : I chose an intermittent use of a mild med : Guanfacine. Works fast, does not stay in body overnight,, use it prophylactically in anticipation of stressful day, or when trusted partner feedback advises it might be helpful for relationship issues. Also find mindfulness meditation app 10% happier great intro with Dali Lama interview is recommended my partner and I do this morning night and as needed on restless nights - repeating the same one for 24hour minimally 2x day Hope this helps Jc

Earnest, thorough, witty, thoughtful deep dives into curiosity’s deep, dark corners.
Welcome back PJ 🎉
So happy to find this podcast by PJ Vogt! I was a loyal Reply All listener and was sad when it ended. Hearing PJ's voice, thoughtful questions and signature laugh are like hearing on old friend again. Thank you so much for putting this show together and sharing these answers to our questions with wonderful storytelling. Simply the best and can't wait for more episodes!
I’m addicted!
New listener & I’m addicted! I love the randomness of this show, so interesting and i’m never bored.
PJ and team are superb story tellers
I didn’t realize how much I missed PJ’s style of story telling until I realized search engine exists and started listening. So far I’ve enjoyed every episode—really looking forward to each and every new episode! Excellent work, keep it up!
A wonderful, entertaining, and thoughtful podcast
Discovering Search Engine was a happy day for sure. As a professional podcaster with more than 10 years of experience, I appreciate well-produced and thoughtful podcasts, and Search Engine fits the bill. PJ and his guests offer insightful discussion and inquiry in relation to fascinating questions that are always highly curious and thought-provoking. Search Engine also offers tremendous entertainment value and simple listening joy for listeners seeking a great podcast experience. I’m hooked!
You made me laugh
A delightful break from the news these days. You made me laugh… and also I was working outside and got really hungry during the first part of the show. I came in and tried to fix/eat lunch just as the brain prep part came on… ugh. Evocative piece I would say. 💜
Every Episode is a GEM
As an avid “airplane coffee drinker” this show had me at its first episode, and every one after has been magnificent. Highly recommend the one about diamonds!!
So glad PJ is back!
I loved PJ on his previous podcast, so was super excited when I learned of this show. I love the deep dives he takes into various topics. Some are things I’ve thought about as well and others are things I’ve never thought of, but all are entertaining and informative regardless!
Insightful, charming, kind - it's just good
I'm learning and laughing, what a gem of a show. Thanks for making this - keep going!
Personal and Universal at the same time
PJ brings so much of himself to this show. He actively grapples with his own biases and assumptions in a way that you almost never see from a host. It’s vulnerable storytelling in the best way. But at the same time, he brings the stories along to reveal universal human truths. After each show I want to go journal my thoughts so I don’t forget the insights. Glad Reply All agreed to put the show in my feed. I wouldn’t have know about it otherwise.
I ask myself a lot of the same questions.
The homeless episode and the bill of Wall Street are my two favorites. The bill episode is so cool. The history behind it all. Amazing. Thanks.
Great stuff
Very enjoyable
Boring episode title? No, that's good, too
Some of the episode titles may intrigue you. Some may not. But all are excellent.
Better than ever
Search Engine is podcasting at its best, and PJ’s gift for storytelling shines brighter than ever here. This show is the perfect combo of deeply researched rabbitholes and deeply human questions and conversations, narrated through PJ’s signature combo of snappy humor and vulnerable realness. Chef’s kiss—perfection!
Does the work
So, so many podcasts out there where the host wakes up, puts on headphones and starts talking to guests (or worse, nobody at all). No respect for the audience’s time. The exceptions are rare and notable. This is one of them. It’s worth your time.
Entertaining and Interesting
This is one of the better entertainment first & informative second, style of podcasts I’ve listened to. The pace and tone are good and the shows are interesting, without pretending to be authoritative. The Episodes about fentanyl, with Ezra Klein, and about prescribed stimulants for ADHD all stand out for me.
The Bull of Wall Street
You did it again. Your story telling and humor is the best. Your podcast is one of my favorites. Keep the episodes coming. Love Love Love!!! CPtr
The Reply-All Replacement We Needed
How happy was I to find this podcast and realize I could get the old, “Reply All” feels back, thanks to PJ! Gimlet gruesomely destroyed the old show, to the point I couldn’t even listen anymore. I walked away and tried to forget all the good times we had. It was too painful. Even Alex seemed checked out once PJ left, but I understand his need to collect the coin and pay bills, even when the revamped show was a pile of sell-out crap. Thank you PJ for starting anew!
Your new favorite hour of visceral and outstanding journalism!
The most fascinating stories told by the highest caliber of audio journalists and producers. My favorite episode so far is “What is it like to slowly go blind?”
